GatherUp alternative for owners who mainly need Google review replies

GatherUp is a reputation tool that asks for reviews, monitors 100+ review sites and drafts AI replies, from $99 a month for one location billed yearly. If what you mostly need is good replies to your Google reviews, ReplyChamp does that for $7 a location a month, with no yearly commitment.

GatherUp facts checked on November 4, 2026, from GatherUp's own website and the listings named in the sources.

The short answer

GatherUp is one of the more owner-friendly tools in this market. It publishes its prices, has a 14-day trial with no card, and says negative reviews are never answered automatically. Its plans cover review requests by text and email, monitoring of 100+ sites, AI-drafted replies, surveys and widgets, with paid add-ons for listings and for disputing reviews that may break platform rules.

ReplyChamp only replies to Google reviews. If requests, monitoring and surveys are what you need, GatherUp is good value. If replies are the whole job, you’d be paying for the rest.

Similar approval rules, different scope

GatherUp and ReplyChamp agree on the most important rule: an unhappy review shouldn’t get an automatic answer. GatherUp says negative reviews are never answered automatically, and that someone on your team can review, edit and approve each suggested reply before it posts.

ReplyChamp goes one step further for small owners: every draft waits for you until you’ve approved 10, and reviews that mention health, safety, legal threats or refunds always wait, whatever their stars. The bigger difference is scope. GatherUp covers requests, monitoring and surveys too. ReplyChamp is only the replies:

The All reviews feed in ReplyChamp, with filter chips for All 40, Needs you 9, Replied 29 and Not replying 1, star and location filters, and the note "Sensitive reviews always wait for you, and 1–2★ wait unless you’ve chosen All reviews." Below them, a 4-star review from Tom Becker marked "Needs approval", waiting 14 hours, with its drafted reply threaded underneath.
1. New reviews arrive with a draft already written. The reviews feed in the ReplyChamp demo: what needs you, what was replied to, and every draft threaded under its review.
A 2-star review from Derek Palmer in ReplyChamp marked "Needs approval": he waited almost 20 minutes for two lattes on a Sunday and the milk was barely warm. Threaded under it, a drafted reply to Derek that mentions the twenty-minute wait and the lukewarm lattes and asks him to ask for the owner next time, with Approve & post, Save edit, Regenerate and Don’t reply buttons.
2. Unhappy reviews wait for you to approve, edit or skip. A 2-star review in the ReplyChamp demo (a made-up café). The draft answers what this customer wrote, and waits for the owner before anything is posted.
A 5-star review from Sofia Marín in ReplyChamp marked "Auto-replied". The review praises the cardamom bun, the friendly team and tasting two single origins. Threaded under it, the reply, "Posted automatically" 14 minutes after the review, thanks Sofia, says the buns are baked every morning and that the compliment will go to the bakers.
3. The ratings you choose can post on their own. A 5-star review in the ReplyChamp demo, answered on its own 14 minutes later because the owner chose to auto-reply to 5★ reviews. The reply mentions what Sofia actually liked.

About Review Defense

Review Defense is GatherUp’s paid add-on for reviews that may break a platform’s policies, and for keeping an eye on competitors. GatherUp is upfront that no provider can promise a review will come down: the platform decides. If you have one or two reviews you think break Google’s rules, you can report them yourself for free. Our guide on how to remove a Google review walks through it.

When GatherUp is the better choice

  • You want review requests by text and email, with credits included each month.
  • You collect reviews on several sites and want them monitored in one place.
  • You run surveys or NPS and want them tied to reviews.
  • You’re fine with yearly billing, or happy to pay more for month to month.

If that’s you, GatherUp is good value. Try its 14-day trial and count how many requests you actually send.

When ReplyChamp is the better choice

  • Reviews already come in. Answering them is what falls behind.
  • Almost all of your reviews are on Google.
  • You want replies that sound like you, not a template.
  • You want to pay $7 a month for each location, with no yearly commitment.

Every draft waits for you until you’ve approved 10. After that, auto-reply posts only the ratings you pick. 1–2★ reviews wait for you unless you deliberately choose All reviews, and reviews about health, safety, legal threats or refunds always wait.

Moving your replies from GatherUp to ReplyChamp

If you only want to change who writes your replies:

  1. Check your GatherUp term. On a yearly plan, the commitment runs to the end of the year.
  2. Turn off GatherUp’s automated replies so no review gets answered twice.
  3. Sign in to ReplyChamp with Google and connect your Business Profile. Approve your first 10 drafts.
  4. Keep sending review requests with GatherUp, or with your free Google review link and a QR card.
